Some thoughts on Magic and Religion...

Welcome

If you have landed here it is either because you have a mild interest in other religious and spiritual practises or it is because you have already chosen your path. This hub is addressed to those who have already chosen, so please forgive my assumption from herein that this is not a matter of whether or not you 'believe' the advice I can give you, but a matter of one who has stumbled to forge her own path passing on a collected knowledge to make others in her wake's lives easier. So please; read on if you are interested - all are welcome - but I do urge that you do not be offended by what I say as my aim is not to offend but to enlighten.

From here on in I shall assume that those still with me look at my writing in a positive light! Be welcome and enjoy.

An Introduction and an Explanation.

OK, so, I'm what you might call a natural practitioner. Introduced to a Christian society from birth at about 14 I realised something didn't quite sit right with me and religion as a whole. I didn't fully believe in God - and to admit it now hurts my heart a little. However - I am not here to preach. I started reading into a variety of religions and practices...I went to church, I went to spiritualist church, I went to evangelical church, I sat in on a Catholic ceremony - I read about Buddhism, about the Muslim's, about the Krishna's - I was invited to a monastery for a chat...I even grilled two Jehovah's Witnesses who came to my Gran's one night. To her horror I invited them in for tea...I guess I was never quite fully able to accept that there was a reason to despise someone for their religion...We are all just one people after all.

Eventually I came across a little book on Paganism (by 'came across' I mean I had the library order it in for me of course) and that was when my eyes were finally opened. It's not that I decided to be a Pagan - I'm not by the way - it's that as I read this little book and what it had to say on the appreciation of Earth as a whole that I realized I had read this same stuff in every single book I had looked at.

In every religion there are universal themes; peace, love, charity and an acceptance of others that allows us all to live together in harmony. A set of rules to live by...Ok so many differ in these rules but in essence I defined my own set of rules developed from the teachings of many different religions. I don't really know what I would call it but it gives me peace. In my eyes all Gods are one being....All religious stories variations of the same tales passed down to us from the Earth's beginnings. Changed over time and adapted to suit each culture...In my eyes there is no need to fight for the difference in belief but there is a need to appreciate another persons faith and to thank the powers that be that they have any belief at all. There is no difference in what we believe because it is the faith that connects us.

Oops!

So what has started as an introduction to Spellcasting, Rituals and Charms has ended in a religious rant from yours truly...I am awfully sorry about that but I will go back and change the title so that it isn't misleading!

So, my next hub will be an introduction into the world of natural magic. For those of you whose attention I still have please do check it out. It is going to be the first in my new online hub-database on how to weave spells, perform rites and make charms against particular harms. I will be taking a brief look at herbs (but I ain't no alchemist), telling you how to go about making your own incense, talking about my personal experience of 'Universe intervention' and maybe even inviting some friends along for interviews!

Until then stay positive and be good!
